Cold Wave Returns To Kashmir, Srinagar Freezes At Minus 2.0

SRINAGAR: Night temperatures throughout the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh remained below the freezing point as the cold wave returned on Monday with the Meteorological Department (MET) forecasting dry weather during the next 48 hours till Wednesday.

“The minimum temperatures that have remained below the freezing point in the Valley and Ladakh, are likely to drop a little more during the next 48 hours because of the clear night sky,” an official of the MET department said.

Qazigund in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley where minimum temperature was minus 5.5 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius while Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.3 degree Celsius.

Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 5.3 degrees.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 8.5 degrees Celsius, Katra 8.2, Batote 5.3, Banihal recorded 6.2 and Bhaderwah recorded 1.5 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
