Kashmir Receives Fresh Snowfall, Minimum Temperature Rises

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall following which minimum temperature rose in the valley providing slight relief to the residents from the cold conditions.

Higher reaches received moderate and plains received light snowfall.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius, over five degrees up from the previous night’s low of minus 8.8 degrees Celsius, an official of the MeT department here said.

Mercury in Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley, increased by over three degrees to settle at a low of minus 7.6 degrees Celsius as against minus 10.2 degrees Celsius the previous night.

The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg, which recorded a low of minus 8.2 degrees Celsius the previous night, registered a low of minus 8.0 degrees Celsius last night.

The mercury in Pahalgam hill resort, in south Kashmir, went up by almost six degrees from the previous night’s low of minus 12.0 degrees Celsius, to settle at a low of minus 6.1 degrees Celsius last night.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 9.5 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 2.9 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu recorded a low of 7.8 degrees Celsius while Batote recorded 5.0, Banihal recorded 0.8, and Bhaderwah recorded 0.7 degree Celsius.
