SRINAGAR: With the lockdown in force for the 28th day, the fast mutating Covid19 virus is exhibiting low infection numbers as the morbidity is gradually going down.
However, the deaths by the pandemic continue. In the last 24 hours Jammu and Kashmir lost 53 people as fresh 2964 cases were detected across 20 districts of the erstwhile state.
Kashmir lost 20 citizens and Jammu 33 in the last 24 hours.
But what is rarely being seen is that more people return home from hospitals fully recovered than the new tally of infections. In the last 24 hours, as many as 3623 people recovered thus reducing the number of active cases to 44918. The recoveries included 1426 cases in Jammu and 2197 in Kashmir.
Now the death toll of Covid19 in Jammu and Kashmir is 3662 people including 1897 in Kashmir and 1765 in Jammu.
As many as 18 deaths took place in Jammu city and eight in Srinagar city, the information revealed by the government said.
The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost five citizens in Budgam, four citizens in Anantnag, and one each in Baramulla, Pulwama and Bandipore.
Apart from 18 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost four citizens in Kathua, three each in Udhampur and Rajouri, two each in Doda and Samba and one in Ramban.
In the last 24 hours, officials said 2964 new Covid-19 positives were reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 487. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 438 cases.
Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 1819 cases against 12145 of the Jammu division.
In Kashmir, the new cases include 220 from Baramulla, 266 from Budgam, 169 from Pulwama, 91 from Kupwara, 223 from Anantnag, 85 from Bandipora, 97 from Ganderbal, 109 from Kulgam, and 72 from Shopian.
From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 102, Rajouri 99, Doda 62, Kathua 117, Samba 84, Kishtwar 27, Poonch 58, Ramban 110, and Reasi 48.
Right now, Jammu and Kashmir has 44918 active cases, which includes 26494 in Kashmir 18424 in Jammu.
